My advisor final comments.

dear sonia, the semester summary is good. i think the theme of the self-portrait can go well together with your political interest and tensions, as well as the reflection on cultural differences.
few comments.
you say: "working on a self-portrait is hard" because "i believe i am lot more than a single image". i strongly agree with such statement, but i invite you to reflect that the same thing could be said about anyone, any portrait of someone else, any depiction of a situation. don't you think? maybe an intersting exercise for you could be to treat your subjects with this conviction in mind, that things are "complex puzzles" formed of layers, "uncountable situations" etc.
i like the fact that the boxes allow you to represent two levels: one evident and open and the other hidden and closed. my suggestion is to explore this "hidden" part in many different ways, considering also that there are many things that we do everything to hide from ourselves. every story has some "dark" and uncomfortable side, and your boxes can "show" the "hidden" (interesting paradox, no?)
finally, i think you need to read - and put in your bibliography - some text on the self-portrait. maybe the edward lucie-smith book (should be something like "history of self-portrait)  is one of the best, but if you find something on women artists' self-portraits that would be good. frida kahlo is definetely a great example to work and reflect on.
anyway, good luck for everything, all my best,
c.
